Here's George Jetson....

Our second day in Seattle was full-on touristy.  We began with a more extensive study of the Pike Place Market, spending a couple of hours working our way through what seemed like several hundred stalls and shops with everything from fresh fish (occasionally flying), fruit and produce to all kinds of consumables and collectibles.  Our tour was punctuated with the sound of the Blue Angels, practicing in the sky above Seattle for their Sunday appearance at Seafair - a local celebration of boat racing, aircraft and the Boeing company.

We made it out of the market without actually purchasing anything except a cup of coffee and some french pastries.   Fuel for our hike over to Seattle Center - tourism's second home in the city.   We limited our visit to two sites:

Experience Music Project - interior photos not allowed:

The EMP is a fun museum that has nostalgia inducing exhibits for Mom & Dad and interactive exhibits that the kids loved and that Mom & Dad wished didn't make them look so un-cool (old) trying them.  And the Frank Gehry designed building is wonderful both inside and out.

We also visited the Space Needle (pictured at the top of the post) which offers amazing views and  inspires a looping playback of the theme from The Jetson's in your head:

Trying to save our legs a bit and wanting the full early 1960s Seattle World's Fair experience, we took the Seattle Monorail back downtown.   The monorail goes from Seattle Center (where the Space Needle is) back downtown to 5th & Pine Streets.  No intermediate stops.  Must have been thrilling in 1962.

We ended our full-on tourist experience at Ray's Boathouse Cafe, north of the city on Puget Sound.  Delicious seafood and a great sunset view.
