Today we flew in to Seattle to start our latest family trip. We've planned five days here in Seattle, with a side trip to Mt. Ranier, then 5 days on Orcas Island in the San Juan Islands.
We're staying at a Kimpton Hotel in downtown Seattle, the Hotel Vintage Park. Beautiful rooms, nightly wine tasting featuring Washington state wineries, and within walking distance to all the downtown attractions. We arrive before check-in time, so dropped our bags and headed off to lunch at Nijo Sushi a couple of blocks from the waterfront. Phenomenal nigiri, sashimi, maki, katsu don and cold beer.
After lunch, we went for a walk along the super-touristy waterfront and then up the hill to Pike Place Market and back over to the hotel for a rest. Liam crashed, Jenny tried to get a nap in, I checked-in at work while Dylan and Ali hit the fitness center. The goal on this trip is to chill, so we are trying not to be overscheduled. It was a nice late afternoon rest before heading out to a great dinner.
Dinner tonight was at Madison Park Conservatory in the tony Madison Park neighborhood of Seattle, on the Western shore of Lake Washington. Chef Cormac Mahoney is a Food & Wine Best New Chef for 2012. Highlights were the deviled eggs with Dungeness crab, Treasure Cove oysters, white nectarine salad, pork cheeks, roasted Tokyo turnips and heirloom potatoes roasted with duck fat. No food pics, but I did take a picture of our delicious Oregon Pinot Noir.
Lake Washington is just across the street:
A great start to our 2012 vacation!
